I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream For ISIS
One of the boldest decisions we made humour wise was to poke fun at a group of insane murderers. Regardless of what you think about anything, these guys are stone cold killers, so much so that one of their top of the class killers is the most famous John right now. More famous than John Legend and his surname is Legend! There is a joke about John du Pont in there as well somewhere. Either way, we decided to portray them as perpetrators of a ridiculous supermarket war. Once we had that idea, it was only one step to ripping on other ridiculous hate groups and the Crew Cut Clan were born. A group of bald men who hate cross gender trouser wearing and shorts who have to operate underground because of the civil tights movement.

While it may seem like they are cheap gags, and you'd be right to think that, there was a lot of research that went into some of the jokes, too. For example, I spent well over a week researching the KKK purely so I could put in some stuff that ripped on some of the proper stupid shit they do. I would have researched ISIS a lot more than I did if I didn't think I'd have the police knocking on my door. Again.
Son Of A Twitch
For me the best moment of releasing the demo was someone playing the game on Twitch. I would be lying to you if I didn't get a twitch in my pants watching it. It was proper fucking weird wanking to someone playing a game that I had helped to create, but I powered through. Back to the point, it was exhilarating, someone else was playing our baby. Not only this, they were enjoying it. They had absolutely no connection to the game emotionally, but they laughed at the jokes and genuinely tried to advance the story.

Although there were lots of positive things to see, it also let us spot a lot of bugs and general annoyances, which, being the organised one, I noted down. In our defence, it is a pre alpha; it is not finished and it was just to get some feedback. It seems the general consensus so far is 'funny but you fucked up the tiny details'. We're currently working on un-fucking the tiny details.
Character Assassination
A lot of the ideas for characters come from bastardisations of people we know, like Jary and Nimbus. Some though just come from flashes of inspiration; Like naming one of the 8 legendary messes 'The Islamic State'. The disambiguation of 'state' is probably something that needs adding to Jary's Dicktionary, so I'll leave it for Jary to explain. For me, it comes from something I read in one of my growing collection of games design and coding books: Always carry a small notebook for the ideas you have during the day. I don't have a notebook, I do however have a WhatsApp group with Joe and Gasher (That's Mike to you plebs, do I have to pay you all 80 grand now?) where I throw my various brain farts into to see what the reaction is. I know something is average by what they say:

And I know it is good if they say:
Joe: “I pissed my pants”
Gash: “Fucking class”

It's being that much in sync that means 9/10 times, when we work solo on the game for a while, we know the others won't kick up a fuss about it and it is probably going to be at least the skeleton of the direction the game is taken in by the whole team. Either that, or they can't be arsed to message back and have a WhatsApp bot set to say the same shit over and over again when I talk bollocks at them.
