I know that movies get their own spotlight here because myself and Darren are the self proclaimed 'movie guys', but let it be known, it almost every other field, 2017 was a banner year. I was genuinely so shocked and amazed at the consistent quality of TV, games and music of this year, honestly at points it bought tears to my eyes. Anyway, enough preamble; here's my take on the rest of 2017.

It’s feast and famine here on my top everything list for 2017. Last years list was a smorgasbord, with options left and right for every category (except for sport). This year, we have two categories overflowing with choice, and two that are as empty as a tramps bank account.
Nonetheless, we wouldn’t be sticking to the rules unless we committed everything to the annals of history. And where would we be without sweet, sweet rules? After seeing a record 37 movies in cinemas and on streaming platforms this year, I can honestly say that deciding a top ten was far more difficult than it was last year. Contention for every spot was a hard fought battle by each movie that made my list, and hopefully this is a sign that movies are on the up as we look ahead into 2018.
But for now, strap in and get prepared to agree, disagree and deeply question my tastes, as we look back on 2017 at the cinemas. 2017 was a free hit. It was laced with the feeling of “it can’t be worse than last year”, and the good news is it managed to lift itself above that very low bar.
Thankfully, Hollywood upped its game as well. Last year, my list of the top 10 best movies had a few entries that, in retrospect, crawled onto that list thanks to an utter lack of competition. But this year is different. There’s no lucky “also rans” punching above their weight, or flawed movies that got their place due to some sense of loyalty - these are 10 stone cold stunners.
In this review, Mike and Darren look back on the year that was 2017, as they review all the movies we missed and count down their top ten movies of the year!
