Foul E3 - The Good and Bad of Nintendo's Digital Event

16/6/2015

Nintendo are, of course, skipping E3 in favour of another Direct presentation. But can Ninty claim the best of show titles whilst sitting at home? Here's the best and worst that Nintendo showed us this year.
Picture
First up, as always, lets get our first reactions to the digital event:
Hard to deny that Nintendo always bring something different to the table. But lets see what the best and worst aspects of their digital event were:

The Good

Starfox Zero

Picture
We were expecting this titles for sure, but not with a confirmed release window. And certainly not with this level of optimisation for the WiiU. Gameplay looks delightfully varied, with proper full on dog fights, tactical fights and transforming vehicles and tool. And it's out the Christmas. This is the start of a very strong Xmas line up for Nintendo.

The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes

Picture
For those hurting over the lack of Four Swords Adventure games since the excellent couple of games from the GBA/Gamecube era, Triforce Heroes reinvigorates multiplayer Zelda with 3 player co-op Link Between Worlds style dungeons and gameplay. If you have friends who love Zelda, and you probably do, this will be a must this Xmas.

Mario And Luigi: Paper Jam

Picture
The Mario RPGs are the hidden gems of any Nintendo library. Seven Stars, the Paper mario games, the Mario and Luigi series, they're all excellent RPG titles. And now, the bigger two series are colliding, bringing Paper Mario and Mario and Luigi together. The maps look way larger than we've seen in any of these RPG efforts and the mechanics are what we've come to know and love. And it's also out at Xmas? Our wallets are going to be hurting something rotten.

The Bad

Metroid Prime: Federation Force

Picture
Fans have been waiting for a new Metroid Prime or a new Metroid game period. And what we got was a kid-friendly cartoony rehash of Hunters for the 3DS. Next year. Fucked it.

Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival

Picture
What a load of shit. A lovely looking Animal Crossing WiiU game could have been introduced here. Instead, we get a Mario Party clone that works entirely off collecting one of the twelve amiibo that exist in shop. Fucked it.

Fire Emblem: Fates & Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei

Picture
Nothing but rehashed GC footage and new subtitles. It was pretty and everything, but we learned nothing new and no specific release dates. What a pain in the arse for people expecting this to take front and centre for the 3DS and WiiU. Lads, people will stop caring if you don't show them some gameplay quick sharp.
