Foul E3 - The Good and Bad of EA's Press Conference

15/6/2015

EA had a particularly poor showing last year, so can they make up for it and deliver the goods at this years E3?
Picture
First up, the initial thoughts from the conference:
So, yeah. Very undewhelming. So, now onto the best and worst from EA's show:

The Good

Mass Effect : Andr0meda

Picture
It may have been all pre-rendered footage and not show off a lot, but it was enough to whet the appetite of everyone waiting for more news on the new part of the Mass Effect story from Bioware. We won't see much else from it, but the fact that it was there was good enough.

Star Wars: Battlefront

Picture
Yes, it may have been more Battlefield than Battlefront, but the gameplay reveal of Battlefront did not disappoint. It looked every bit as exhilarating as we'd hoped. It totally evokes the pure rush that Star Wars always has done in all it's formats. This went from being a husk of its former self to a total rush of nostalgia and emotion. I can't wait.

The Bad

EA Sports

Picture
Jesus, this was 75% of EA's conference. And none of it was even remotely enjoyable. EA Sports has always been the section we have to grin and bear over E3, but this year, it just didn't know where to stop. We even wasted a load of time doing an impromptu episode of Parkinson with footballer Pele. Did we really need this? Are these games so ground-breaking that they needed to permeate every other minute of this conference? Sports games are just never as good as they say. I seriously considered having a nap every time one of these titles showed up. I wish I had.

Mobile Games

Picture
"Let's talk about mobile!" "Let's not!" That was my genuine response. No, we don't care about a Star Wars card game. We care even less about those yellow dungaree wearing fucks, the Minions. Mobile games are important business wise, sure, but theses titles look like Gameloft standard rubbish that any man and his dog could knock out. Another colossal waste of time.

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Fallen Empire

Picture
Something this story heavy just shouldn't be in an MMO. It simply won't work. If anything, I was more depressed by the idea that The Old Republic won't go back to being a traditional RPG. Now I'm depressed. Thanks, EA.
