I spend a lot of time on Facebook. Mainly trolling morons and sharing our awesome articles to as many pages as I can. That is a lot by the way! A lot. What I have noticed from a couple of Facebook groups I am in is that there tends to be five main types of religious debater. Not just of the theistic leaning either, this is all denominations of faith or lack thereof. This is my expose on the seedy underworld of, atheist and religion debating.
1. Checkmate Atheists!!!
This one is such a common thing that internet mongols have made it into a meme.
Checkmate atheists usually follows some of the most circular reasoning you've ever seen. Something along the lines of 'If God isn't real, why did he send Jesus to share the bible with us all? Checkmate Atheists.' You're best steering clear of these assholes, nothing you say will ever get through to them. It's actually like trying to persuade your mates that you didn't shag that fat bird they saw you with. It won't work, and it just makes you look stupid.
2. "Prove it, religitard!"
I love this so much. It usually follows a Checkmate Atheist post. You will see someone post 'God is in all of us, he created the world and that is a fact' within minutes you have a multitude of posts all saying one thing.
It is with a heavy heart that I have to write this, because I am an atheist myself, but for fucks sake grow up! If all you have to add to something is 'prove it' you should probably prove that you have been to school before, you moron.
3. Fucking Idiots
This is probably the largest of all the groups. There are more idiots per square foot of religion debating space than any other kind of people. They can be your regular standard idiot, the kind of person who has a 'best' cap or they could be a special kind of idiot. Like this guy.
You love gays so much you want to stop them from having the same rights as everyone else? If you're going to be bigoted, be consistent. You're either against bummery and scissoring or for it, you can't flit between the two. Unless you're bi-homophobic? Like I said, fucking idiots.
4. The Fake Fact Poster
Fake facts and stats are abundant on these debate sites. There is nothing more satisfying than shutting down an argument about who has the bigger penis by 'quoting' a 'study' about the 'average penis size of believers and non believers' and that 'atheists were considerably more well hung than their religious equivalents' Of course, this is then met by choruses from the prove it crowd. So you reply with a meme or more numbers.
Of course the thing about fake facts and figures is you can reply with fake facts and figures back. It's a never ending cycle and nothing can end it. Not even real facts and figures, because they are biased you asshole! Are you fucking stupid? Honestly, it is like talking to a fucking moron... Sorry, I got lost in the moment there.
5. Trolls
Unfortunately no matter where you go on the internet there are trolls. People who say things just to get a rise, don't add anything to the debate and just generally try to rile those around them.
